We're two weeks into 2023, and saying "Happy New Year!" has fallen out of fashion, but that doesn't mean the year isn't new anymore. You'd still call a two-week-old child a "new baby," after all. So, in the same way, Fair Outdoor Design is still discussing how we can help you reach new goals in the new year.
We want to help you with your goals by handling your junk removal. The new year's appeal is all about the power of fresh starts - but to make room for the new, you have to remove what's no longer working for you. To put it simply, Marie Condo it!
Of course, going through your stuff and deciding what to keep isn't always easy. So here are our tips for clearing up your space so your Collinsville home can be as happy as your landscape.
Set Your Goal
Knowing where you're going is critical to getting there. That's true with road trips, buildings, landscaping, and everything else. With junk removal, it helps you not only to take the correct steps but also to keep you inspired to get there.
When you remember that clearing out that garage will give you room for that new hobby, it's easier to do the work than when all you're thinking about is the “trash” in front of you! It's also helpful in preventing you from holding onto items because you might use or sell them one day.
If you want to make extra cash, you'll sell them now. However, if you need space more quickly, that will influence how you go about the process.
Break It Down
Now that you know why you're doing what you're doing, you can figure out how to do it. If you have a whole house, room, or even closet, to sift through, it can feel overwhelming! So divide it into steps.
Each day give yourself a goal of how much space you'll make or how many items you'll touch. When you reach the goal, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment. That momentum will inspire you to keep going as you conquer your next step.
Divide and Conquer
Alright, so you're in the process of junk removal. You know why you're doing it and how much you want to do each day. But what exactly is the process? An excellent way to start is by dividing the items you're sorting into categories.
Depending on the size of your project, these categories may fit in boxes, sections of a room, or (if you're going through a home) rooms of the house. The following categories are ones to bear in mind as you go: keep, sell, donate, or trash.
Keep
If you have a room you haven't gone through in a while, most stuff in it isn't useful to you anymore. But you may run into a few pleasant surprises. When you find items you miss or forgot you had, consider it a win and put them aside.
Sell
Depending on your timeline and resources, you might skip this division of items. However, if you don't have anything worth selling or don't have the time to determine its worth and list them for sale, feel free to add these items to the giveaway pile.
If you are selling items, you can do it a few ways. EBay and Facebook are excellent sources to sell used items, but it can take patience. If the things you're selling are specialized (like jewelry or collectibles), third-party sellers will often sell them for you in exchange for a cut.
Yard sales are great if you don't care how much you make and want to do it all at once; when it's over, anything that's left you can give away.
Donate
Depending on how much time you want to spend selling, this may be one of the largest piles. Anything that's in good enough shape that people can use it can be donated to places like homeless shelters or thrift stores.
You can also give directly through sources like Facebook, but it takes more time and patience. Many charities like Goodwill or Habitat for Humanity will send a truck to pick up large items.
Trash
Let's face it - a lot of what you go through will be trash. We accumulate a lot in our lifetimes, and sometimes we don't throw away things when we should.
That's why we offer junk removal as one of our services. Once you've completed the process and know for sure what you're getting rid of, you can save yourself the trouble of multiple trips to the dump by giving Fair Outdoor Design a call for your junk removal.
Junk Removal Large and Small
Hopefully, we've inspired you to start 2023 off a little cleaner. Remember also that if you already know it's all junk, you can call Fair Outdoor Design at the beginning for your junk removal project and save yourself the trouble of sorting. Large or small, we haul it all!
